Providers now exclusively treating patients via video consultation services in wake of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak
ANNAPOLIS – Oasis: The Center for Mental Health announced today they are now actively booking appointments for video visits and virtual therapy sessions with providers to meet the demand of patients needing remote mental health treatment services in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the United States.
Video visits with medical professionals, also known as, “telehealth,” is not new in the healthcare marketplace. However, until recently both providers and patients vastly underutilized the available services and technology. Now, as businesses and citizens begin to exercise extreme caution to avoid further spread of COVID-19, video consultations are becoming an important and critical resource for patients with non-life-threatening health concerns.
Oasis’ President and founder, Kathy Miller, MA, LCPC, said, “We are pleased Oasis has a way to offer a continuum of care for our patients during these extremely unprecedented times, especially those who were already suffering with anxiety and depression before the panic that has come along with coronavirus.” Miller added that telehealth services will allow providers to continue scheduling standard counseling or psychiatric appointments with patients1, prescribing medications as needed, and completing virtual mental health assessments while still practicing social distancing to reduce community spread of the disease.
Most major insurance providers treat telemedicine/video visits exactly the same as in-office visits with their providers. In many cases, co-pays are the exact same amount and patients only need a smartphone, tablet or personal computer with a camera and Internet access to participate. At this time, Oasis is now scheduling telehealth appointments for both new and existing patients.
