About Oasis: The center for Mental Health

Oasis: The Center for Mental Health is a solution that was developed by a group of professionals who recognized a need in the mental health field that was going unmet. Established in 2004, Oasis has been serving the Maryland and Washington D.C. communities by providing an urgent after hours mental health care center.  Over the years, we have been able to reach out to hundreds of families and help thousands of people who had or have a mental illness and provide them with a viable option for fast, reliable treatment.

The unique aspect of Oasis is our hours of operation. Oasis is open by appointment from 5 p.m. until 12 midnight, 7 days a week, including holidays. Individuals and families can be seen within 24 hours—avoiding long wait periods.

  • Oasis’ dedicated and experienced staff includes clinical social workers and medical doctors trained and credentialed in psychiatry
  • Oasis’ offers extended support to clients’ family members and loved ones. This support provides a valuable link to services within the community that offers reinforcement, education, and comfort
  • Oasis’ services are covered by most insurance policies. Oasis has worked diligently in cooperation with a number of insurance companies to arrange for services and fees to meet most insurance coverage requirements. When fee-for-service payments are required, Oasis’ fees are designed to be affordable and comparable to those charged by other private mental health practitioners.

One in five people will have a diagnosable mental health illness in their lifetime. The fastest growing group for suicide is the middle school child. During the next several years the World Health Organization predicts that depression will be second in illnesses having a negative economic impact in the world. Mental health issues are frequently unaddressed because of a lack of knowledge about mental illness and difficulty reaching treatment. This is particularly devastating when the treatment success rate for most mental illness is anywhere from 75% to 85%. Only 20% of people that need to be in treatment are currently in treatment. When surveyed as to why they are not, the most frequently given answer is the lack of available good mental health care.

Oasis is a mental health center -  designed to provide urgent psychiatric care to our communities . Our system allows easy access for people with mental health issues to be seen within a 24-hour period by staff trained in psychiatry. If medication is needed, it is prescribed during that appointment. The mental health center will be open 5 pm to 12 midnight, 7 days a week, including holidays, and from 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays for follow-up therapy and urgent therapy visits.

Patients seen at Oasis that are currently in treatment with a provider will be referred back to their provider for further care. Patients that need further treatment but are waiting to get in to see a provider through their insurance will continue to be seen at Oasis for follow-up care three times a week for two weeks for adults and up to four times a week for two weeks for adolescents.
